Who can benefit?

FAQS

Q: Do I need to be flexible or fit?
A: No. Awareness Through Movement® is for beginners and experienced movers alike.

Q: What should I wear?

A: Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement. Layers are recommended, as slow movements can leave you feeling cool.

Q: Is this a workout?
A: No. Movements are gentle and exploratory, emphasizing awareness rather than exertion.

Q: What if I have pain, injury, or physical limitations?
A: Participants are solely responsible for their safety and wellbeing. Always consult your doctor before starting any movement program. Awareness Through Movement® is not a substitute for medical diagnosis, advice, or treatment.

Q: What is a lesson like?

A: Classes are guided verbally, with slow, gentle movements and pauses for rest and sensing. Movement is always done within the range of comfort, and instructions can be adjusted based on your needs. Most lessons are done lying on the floor, though some are taught in sitting or standing.

Debra's "Awareness Through Movement" classes have really helped me discover ways to move that are more efficient and easier on my body, and they do so in a fun and relaxing way.  She makes an effort to select topics that are diverse, but also especially relevant to those taking the classes.  I highly recommend the Feldenkrais method and Debra's classes in particular.  It's a great way to help your body and de-stress at the same time!
